Mathare NO. 10 Youth Group Organisation (MANYGRO)
We run a successful waste collection service aimed at improving the environmental health of our community. We also work to educate young people on issues such as the dangers of drug use and HIV/AIDS.
MANYGRO has started a community garden in an abandoned plot in their neighbourhood and are engaged in high-intensity urban agriculture growing nutritious kales and other greens for their group and for the local market. With the blessing of the community and their local chief, the group have recently secured a small plot of land currently used only as a garbage dump, and intend to clean it up and rear hardy local chicken breeds for meat and eggs. They need start-up money to build coops and purchase chickens.

Many youth groups in the slum communities of Nairobi, Kenya, run garbage collection services. Their goal is to create a clean and healthy environment for all -- and to uplift the youth. The two groups profiled here are our group, MANYGRO and another Mobile Movement Group situated closer to the countryside - WYPER.
