Kawangware Urumwe Youth Group
We have been working in our neighborhood for over a decade to improve the livelihoods of youth and to care for our community's environment, health and well-being.
In addition to managing a successful and sustainable waste-collection program and water-selling business, the Kawangware group is establishing a bio-gas production project and a catering enterprise.
The group is passionate about community-based development and wishes to open a low-cost Resource and Training Centre, offering internet access at affordable rates; advocacy on issues of domestic abuse, legal rights, child welfare; and support for persons with disabilities. They have trained and skilled youth ready to teach and counsel on these subjects, including educators, paralegals, and health workers. They even have the building structure: a large shipping container that they have modified to serve as a small walk-in centre. What Kawangware needs now are tables, chairs, used computers, as well as DVD and CD-ROM training materials.
